Sum- On a case involving a sex offender, Stabler sacrifices Benson’s life for that of a little girl. But in doing so, Benson is shot and put in a coma. Stabler blames himself, but he puts his emotions aside and puts all his energy into finding the shooter and sex offender that got away. Can he do it? Or will Olivia Benson be just another memory in those she left behind? This is not an Elliot/Olivia story. Elliot is still married, and Olivia is engaged to another man. Elliot and Olivia’s relationship is more of a brotherly/sisterly type. Might be cross with CSI in later chapters, not sure.
Prologue
Mark Matthews sat on his couch, looking at the little girl that was just taken from her family.
What am I gonna do with you? he wondered.
“Get up,” he demanded.
The little girl did what he asked, in fear of having him hit her again.
Matthews led her to the bedroom, pushed her in, and locked the door.
This wasn’t the first time he’s kidnaped a little girl. Oh no, he’s done it many times before.
Matthews sat back on the couch and looked at a picture he took of Marcie Kincaid, not even a year ago.
He killed her because she had a smart mouth. Always telling Matthews he was gonna get caught, always telling him that the police, one particular SVU detective, was gonna find him.
He knew he couldn’t evade the police forever but he sure as hell was gonna try.
He knew about Special Victims Unit, about the detective’s in there.
He got close to one detective. One Detective Olivia Benson.
He’s gotten to know the detectives, gotten to know their routines, in order to throw suspicion of himself.
But in the last week or so, he had to break it off. He was afraid that Olivia would find out about what he does and would tell the other officers.
But she did find out and he gave her a pretty good beating.
But that pregnant dog survived, he thought. She won’t live the next time I get through with her.
He was certain that the police would never find his new hideout.
But he must not know the detective’s as well as he thought.
Normal POV
“You got the address of Mark Matthews?” Olivia Benson asked Fin Tutuola.
“Yeah, here,” Fin said, giving the paper to Olivia.
Elliot Stabler intercepted it and looked at Olivia.
“Are you sure your ready to get out in the field again?” he asked. “You can stay here.”
“I think you should do what Elliot said,” Captain Don Craggen added. “I still think you should take a week off to recover from your ordeal.”
“After all, Liv, you were beaten pretty badly,” John Munch told her.
“I’m fine,” Olivia said. “All I get is headache’s once in a while. I’m fine.” She took the paper from Elliot. “Let’s go.”

When they got to the abandoned house that an eyewitness said Mark Matthews was in, Olivia and Elliot wasted no time in going inside.
When they got inside, Elliot and Olivia found Matthews sitting on a couch.
“Where is she?” Olivia yelled to Matthews.
“Well, if it isn’t Olivia Benson, my girlfriend,” he said. “You look okay. Maybe I should hit you again to make sure you don’t survive...”
Elliot heard that and was scared for his partner’s life but he figured out where the girl was hiding.
“Don’t go in there!” Matthews yelled, grabbing Olivia. “Don’t go in there, or I’ll shoot your partner.”
“Do it, Elliot,” Olivia rasped. “Save the girl.”
When he opened the door, he heard shots.
Olivia was lying on the floor and Matthews was hunched in pain.
Elliot pulled the trigger on his gun but Matthews missed it and shot his leg.
He turned his attention to the girl.
“Are you okay?”
When she nodded her head, he was gone.
He saw Olivia on the floor, so he raced over there.
“Officer down, officer down,” Stabler said into his walkie-talkie. “Request an ambulance to the corner of 5th and Madison. I repeat, officer down.”
He checked for a gunshot wound and saw one in her right shoulder.
He held his hand on it until the ambulance came.
He stroked her hair.
“Please be okay, Liv,” Stabler said, over and over again. “Please be okay.”
An ambulance came and took her to the local hospital.
“Captain,” Stabler said, “Olivia was shot by the perp. They’re taking her to the hospital right now. Call Fin and Munch and tell them to meet me at the hospital.”
“Will do, Elliot,” the captain said and hung up.
Stabler sighed, got into his car, and drove to the hospital.
Did you like it? My first Law and Order: SVU fic, so be kind. I’m not from New York, so bear with me. I don’t know any of the streets. I’m a Jersey girl. I’ve only been to New York once. Anyway, tell me if you want me to make a cross over fic with CSI. Peace!

Tell me what you think! And stay tuned for the second part.
